Day 36-crazy shopping!

Totally free! We set off at 3pm to Jiang Han Lu, it might be umpteen time I’ve been there, but I’m not bored of it yet! Which is good? Everything there is way cheaper than what we see at the shopping centres here.

Before reaching the street we went to the bank to get our Sing dollars changed. I realised that changing money in Singapore is way easier than changing it here; it can easily locate the money changer at any shopping centres or at any neighbourhood centrals, however, the only way to change money here is going to the bank, with your passport in hand and wait for your queue number to be called out! Time consuming and just a waste of time! If only they weren’t so corrupted changing money here will be a breeze.

Reflection:

Due to corruption and fraud they have to take extra measures, which give us foreigner’s trouble, however making them change immediately would be impossible, so China take one step at a time! I’m sure during my next visit, it will be way better!

Day 35:Visiting WUST new campus

We were warmly greeted by the local students at the new WUST campus! They were all waiting at the entrance with smiles don on their faces, clapping as we got down the bus. The best part was that they changed their signboard to “We warmly welcome the students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic “

The new campus looks way better than the campus that we’re currently living in! Even though I do envy that they get to live in such a great environment, I’m happy with where I’m living now because it is more centralized and at everyone one time you’ll see people walking around. However in the new campus there, besides us walking about, there was close to no one walking about, it’s not that I want to see people, it’s just that it gives me a feel that it’s civilization and that if I’m in trouble, I can still get help!

In the library, a mini museum of the school

Outside the library

We were each assigned to a “buddy”, they were suppose to tell us more about the school and whatever we want to know more about the school or anything about China, they were really nice but I found them too nice, way too open, like they wanted to hold hands while we walked, but it made me really uncomfortable because I don’t really know them and it’s my first time meeting them! So there is the sense of awkwardness and distance.

A short performance by the China student from WUST, and a tiny performance by us too, it was rather impromptu but we manage to pull it through so YAY!

They brought us to their canteens! A escalator in a canteen is something pretty impressive! It has 3 floors and each floor sells different kind of food, something that is lacking here in the old campus. We then went to their hostels, and I must say its way better than the hostels that the locals students are staying here in the old campus, it is more spacious and only 4 people sleep in each room as compared to 6 here! They are also given each a desk under their beds which is 2 times bigger than the ones here.

After that we had some ball games with them, before visiting the medical school! According to the professor all the specimen are real and are there for almost 30 years! (they have been persevered of course). Some of the specimen that I noticed were pretty cool, like those foetus of deformed the child to tortoise to lizards. After that we were sent back to our hostels and I stayed behind to finish blogging while MeiXiu and all went to “Lao Shu Jie” to shop!

Group photo with our buddies

Reflection:

I felt really overwhelmed as they welcomed us into their school; from what I learnt during IS, it is part of the culture here in China! They tend to be very friendly to their guest and give them their undivided attention; everything has to planned and attended for! Not that I don’t like, but I felt that what they did was too much for me and they should try to tone down, but then again everyone has his own practices, Singapore may not go to the extend to go to the car porch and wait for your arrival, but we would probably have a reception with some finger food so and mingle with them.

Day 34 tue: project presentation, shopping

9AM, PM final presentation and I noticed that everyone was dressed really smartly in formal clothing, guys and girls in shirts. Maybe it’s just my class, because our lecturers aren’t as particular of what we wear?
We were the 4th group to present, as compared to the previous presentation, we were more prepared and we didn’t make any mistakes as compared to the other groups! Greatest news ever! we really put in a lot of effort to recheck and recheck the gantt chart and AON diagrams and everything! Special thanks to Noor and Eline who stayed up late to recheck and compile everything.
This being the last PM lesson, we are free till the end of this trip to do whatever we want at anytime we want (still abiding the rules of course). They returned to “Yes I do” to get their free treatment while I sat there watching the videos that were on my IPod. It was an excruciating wait because I had no one to accompany me and I couldn’t leave the seats because I had their bags :/
After they had their hair done, we had dinner at Pizza hut, and I have to say, the service at” guang gu” is way better than any other Pizza hut I’ve had here! Not only were they quick in taking orders, they also severed us within a reasonable time.

Reflection:
Today being the last PM lesson I shall summarise what I’ve learnt. A project manager isn’t a simple job, a lot of decisions rely on you, one wrong decision, and the activities following that will go haywire! It’s not as simple as we think, planning an activity requires plenty of thinking and careful planning without the project manager guidance the project will have plenty of problems!

Day 33-Revision paper plus project preparation

Class as per normal, 9AM, revision paper for the morning class and we were let off to complete our project which is due tomorrow. Besides going out for lunch, dinner and going to class I didn’t do anything else besides completing the project and trying to prepare what to say for the presentation.

This pretty much sums up my day.(Sorry no pictures)

Day 32-Do projects and shopping

Easter morning, I'm up and already doing my PM project! This is the first time i'm not celebrating easter in church at mass, strange feeling but there isn't any churches here in Wuhan or at least not one that I know of. Easter vigil and easter egg followed by easter lunch! I MISS SINGAPORE ):

The whole day was spent in the hostel completing the project! I woke up pretty early to complete my part of the project, only to find out that the first part of the project has been change, which means everything that I’ve done the night before was for nothing! But nonetheless accepted it and quickly started on it.

I decided to give myself a break and headed down to “jiang han lu” to shop and came back to continue at night.

Reflection:

Even though you need to complete something’s by a certain time, you shouldn’t stress yourself too much, by stressing yourself you will not be able to produce work to your optimal potential, so taking breaks here and there will help but don’t take too long breaks because you will never be able to finish the task allocated to you! .

Day 31- musuem and picnic

Isn’t 8AM very familiar? Yes w had to assemble at 8AM yet again! On our way to the history museum there were many vehicle breakdowns! First there was a public bus, and next it was some taxi, these little actions made the trip to the museum even longer and unbearable the tour guide told us that if the museum is booked at a specific timing and if we aren’t there at that time, we will not be able to enter, thankfully that didn’t happen because it would have been a wasted trip for us and being out by 8 wouldn’t be worth it!
We got there just in time, the museum was divided into 3 parts, first it was the main building, the ones on the left were archaeology findings and the right side was a theatre where they performed musical instruments for 15 minutes ( for a price of course)

group photo outside the museum

the armour that the horses wear

the outer cover of the coffin, its to protect the main coffin

a cup where they store spices

spoiling meixiu's photo! I fell thus the kneeling position, the rest just posing behind her!
After the museum, we headed to “dong hu” to have our lunch, it wasn’t at some pretty restaurant near the lake neither was it on a boat. We had our lunches on the grass, a very American way of having a picnic! The weather was just nice for having a picnic, it was hot neither was it cold it was just nice! We found a spot sat down and had our “lunch” which mainly contained of chips! ( really bad for health ) after that we were free to roam about.

Met at 2 PM and we headed back to the hostel. I really felt like going back to the lake because I didn’t want to do my project! For the past few days, the only thing that was on mind was , PROJECT! We Quickly discussed as a group and we went out to get our hair done.Practically half the class went to the same shop Sihao's clique and my clique, now half the class has premed hair, but me not liking to follow trends decided to trim my hair only.

We went to this shop called "Yes I do", when we first entered,we were greeted warmly by the the people there, the service in this shop is really good! They treated us really well, from the time we entered till the time we left, never once did they shout! The best part it is super duper cheap! 25RMB to cut, wash and style that's like 5 SGD ! which part of Singapore can you get such services?! tell me if you do know of that place (:

Reflection:
When it was free and easy time, I was roaming about viewing the exhibits and I found out that some of the artefacts are replicas and not the real ones, I was rather surprised because I thought that everything that is being showcased were are authentic and not replicas! From this I’ve learnt that we cannot look things as it is, we have to READ! If I haven’t read the boards I would have been bluffed for the rest of my life.

Day 30 Coke cola factory visit

signboad to the factory
8AM! We had to be at the school gate at 8AM! Today we went to the coke cola factory where they made coke! However it wasn’t our day, we didn’t get to see how they produce the coke because they stopped production as there was enough stock in their warehouse. From this you can tell that they are not good at forecasting how much is needed at each time, and plenty of losses will be incurred because of it! Therefore proper forecasting is very important to any business!

We got a tour around the factory, there were plenty of different monuments that coke has over the past years here in China! From giant coke bottle (it’s a fridge) to tiny collar pins of different countries (Singapore included)
While we were about to leave the factory, we noticed that there was a fridge that was unguarded and full of coke! What’s visiting a coke factory without getting some souvenir? We quickly ran back to get one bottle each for memory sake.
After the tour we were sent back to the hostel and I didn’t step out of the hostel after that

Taking drinks from the unattended fridge
group photo with my group

photo with polar bears

giant coke! ( it's actually a fridge)

Reflection:
From the factory, i realised being an MNC isn’t easy; a lot of work must be put in, in order to keep the reputation of the product at its best. Take example, they use a lot of Taiwan singers and actors to promote their products, even if its a household brand all over the world, they still put in an effort to promote the products instead of leaving it stagnant.

Day 29- Practical test

Day 29- Practical test
The night before the practical test, teeli , meixiu were practicing the past year paper very carefully and meticulously and it turns out that the test that we sat for today was almost similar to it! However I was still unable to do the questions properly! I could probably have scored and done very well, however upon coming out from the room I realised I’ve made plenty of careless mistakes which will affect my whole grade):
After that it was lunch, we had to rush all the way to MacDonald because we were given very little time for lunch. Upon returning back, we received a message that afternoon class will start later instead of earlier, so much for swallowing down my food, we had lessons all the way till 4, today’s lesson was about team and diversity, separated into groups we had to think of characteristics that make a good team and come out with adjectives for each one of our group mates that describe them when we work together as a group. After when this was done we went back to the hostel
It was a really wet day today, even though the rain wasn’t heavy but it just continued to rain as if there is no tomorrow. Every time when it rains, it always makes me feel really gloomy, especially as I leave the hostel room , because of the lack of lighting it make the whole building seem dark and very unhappy which affects my mood for the whole day, then again what can I do? Mother Nature isn't on my speed dial!
Even with such a terrible weather, we still went out to get some food for the picnic that we're going to have on Saturday at Dong Hu. We went to Metro, no it isn't a place where they sell clothes and home appliances, it sells FOOD at wholesale prices! They sell snacks at really cheap prices and in BLUK!

Reflection:
From today’s test, it has made me realised practice doesn’t mean that you’ll be perfect but it also doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t take things easily. From now onward I’ll read the questions properly and re-read it a few time before attempting the question. This applies to everything I do !

Day 28 lesson

With continuation of yesterday’s chapter of leadership, we watched clips of the movie Elizabeth, the movie portrayed Queen Elizabeth I as a very strong women which lead her country to war, even though she was female, she still gained the respect of her people. She was really smart, she made use of talent! Even though the man was in prison, she released him because he has a talent that no one has and that was he was great in the sea, so with his help they were able to win the war! Elizabeth was not only a leader; she was also a mother to the whole country.

Lessons went on after that. Nothing really happened during lesson time.
The peak of this day was that there was this couple fighting just across the road from our hostel, being very “kahpoh” Singaporeans, both yanting and I stood at balcony to watch this “free show”;the guy was really violent, throwing the girl here and there like some rag or some toy that he doesn’t want to play with anymore. All the girl did was scream and shout at him which I think was pointless, she should just go home and sleep!
Reflection:
I realised the man here in China aren’t as gentlemanly as those in Singapore, if they’re unhappy with their girlfriends they will just slap them across their faces or scold them so loudly till the people across the road can hear! Violence isn’t going to solve anything, sitting down and talking things out is way better then hitting someone cause nothing is going to be solved with violence!
