Day 40: Project and getting our hair done (:

We were suppose to meet at 10AM to do our IS video, everyone in my group overslept/was sick (except me of course I was ready by 9.30AM) so we started at 11 instead. We got everything done by 12.20PM because we had to have our rooms cleared and luggage’s weighted! Isn’t it strange, Time seems to pass so quickly when we’re really starting to enjoy what we have, the company, the surroundings and everything else that makes this whole trip more fulfilling?

Anyways we had our luggages weighted and thank god mine was just nice! On the dot, 30 kg!

After that we set off to “guang gu guan chang” to get our hair wash and blow, for the very first time, we took this van called the “面包车”, we were sceptical with the direction that he was driving and we even thought of an escape plan because the direction that he was going wasn’t the usual ones that we took, he lead us to some really bumpy and very “ulu” place but after awhile we were at ease when we saw the main road.

Back to the story of getting our hair washed and blow, I feel like a tai tai just typing this down, last time at “Yes I do” and I have to say, I’ll miss the friendly stylist and the great service that they give us every time we came.

Yes we did do some shopping, and like yesterday, we’re not our usual selves not as chirpy and smiley selves. We got ourselves our favourite Coco bubble tea and took the “面包车” back to meet the local friends for supper and to give them each a card, we printed them each a photo which both our faces and theirs in it and wrote little notes behind them. Hopefully they’ll remember us (:

Day 39: Jiang Han Lu for the last time

Heavy downpour, which means all the road side stalls in Jiang Han Lu will be closed, and it’s the last time that we’ll be there, we had many things in mind that we wanted to get from there, like to exchange our clothes that we bought cause we found some flaws and just to get stuff that we have missed out previously.

Feeling really bored we decided to head down to “Shao Ping Mao’s” K box and just waste the night away. We were pretty scared to go there by ourselves, 5 girls, in such a place isn’t save. So we called or local friends to join us!
It was really cheap! 60 RMB per hour which is equivalent to 12 SGD and the technology that they use is really advance too, touch screen panel to choose the songs that you want and every room has a different interior.








Reflection:
It was my first time going to a karaoke lounge and I have to say it isn’t as bad as how I imagined it to be. It isn’t some smokey and messy place where all the “ah beng” and “ah lians” hang out, on contrary it was really clean with very nice people coming in and out. So who says China is where the uncivilised people live? I here beg to differ.

Day 38: Theme park and Jiang Han Lu

To thank our local friends, we decided to give them all a treat at a Brazilian restaurant, I’ve been to the ones in Singapore and I have to say it is almost similar except they aren’t as particular when they cut the meat. In Singapore, they really come in front of you and slice the meat paper thin on each and everyone’s plate but here in China they just cut in chunks, losing the essence of the restaurant.

After that we took a bus to “zhong qu gong yuan”! Finally we’re going to a theme park! Everyone in class has already been twice, the first time at “zhong qu gong yuan” and the second time at “dong hu” we totally missed the “dong hu” one because we didn’t walk deep into the park to find. Aren’t we losers?!

The theme park was really deep in the park we had to walk like 20 minutes before hearing the machines moving, when we finally got there we went around the park to decide on what rides to take, they don’t have a pay once and play all ride system, we have to pay for every ride that we want to take which is rather costly if you look at it from the China people point of view. The most expensive ride is 25 RMB and the cheapest 10 RMB and if you were to play everything it will cost a bomb!

Everyone else played this turning thing and the roller coaster while I watched them, I’ve never been a theme park person since young however I like going to experience the screams from the people that are on the rides.

After that we headed to “Jiang Han Lu” to shop, but this time we weren’t our usual self. Usually when we get there we get all excited and go around buying load and loads of stuff. But today we were walking around like zombies with no life in us (our hearts probably knows that we’re going to leave China soon and we’re gonna miss it)

On the bus ride back, Jean was sitting at the window seat when the person sitting next to her decides to vomit! YES YOU READ IT RIGHT VOMIT! It was either to step all over the vomit to get out or climb over the seats to get out. Of course she chose the latter, she had stares and all but they were short-lived.

Day 37: nails and farewell dinner with local students

Another free day! we decided to split into 2 groups today, MeiXiu and Teeli to dye their hair in “guang gu” and Yanting, Jean and me to “Metro” to get more Wuhan specialities and finally to get our nails done at “shopping mall”!

We left by 11AM because we had to be back in school by 5.30PM for the farewell dinner! ( yum yum yum great food at a great restaurant )
So many design so many choices, we finally decided on 1. This shop was way cheaper than the first one we’ve been, it is 4 times cheaper, and I could have it once every week!

Rushed back to school to get our pictures taken at the main block with the local students followed by a short walk to “jian er” for dinner at this really posh restaurant with really nice food! A tiny prize presentation was carried out by Mr Ng to show our gratitude towards the WUST staff and it was dinner time: D

After dinner, the local students came over to our hostel to have a little chat and after they left Teeli and I decided to have a little fashion show by trying on the stuff we bought since we got here and off to bed (:

Day 36-crazy shopping!

Totally free! We set off at 3pm to Jiang Han Lu, it might be umpteen time I’ve been there, but I’m not bored of it yet! Which is good? Everything there is way cheaper than what we see at the shopping centres here.

Before reaching the street we went to the bank to get our Sing dollars changed. I realised that changing money in Singapore is way easier than changing it here; it can easily locate the money changer at any shopping centres or at any neighbourhood centrals, however, the only way to change money here is going to the bank, with your passport in hand and wait for your queue number to be called out! Time consuming and just a waste of time! If only they weren’t so corrupted changing money here will be a breeze.

Reflection:

Due to corruption and fraud they have to take extra measures, which give us foreigner’s trouble, however making them change immediately would be impossible, so China take one step at a time! I’m sure during my next visit, it will be way better!

Day 35:Visiting WUST new campus

We were warmly greeted by the local students at the new WUST campus! They were all waiting at the entrance with smiles don on their faces, clapping as we got down the bus. The best part was that they changed their signboard to “We warmly welcome the students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic “

The new campus looks way better than the campus that we’re currently living in! Even though I do envy that they get to live in such a great environment, I’m happy with where I’m living now because it is more centralized and at everyone one time you’ll see people walking around. However in the new campus there, besides us walking about, there was close to no one walking about, it’s not that I want to see people, it’s just that it gives me a feel that it’s civilization and that if I’m in trouble, I can still get help!

We were each assigned to a “buddy”, they were suppose to tell us more about the school and whatever we want to know more about the school or anything about China, they were really nice but I found them too nice, way too open, like they wanted to hold hands while we walked, but it made me really uncomfortable because I don’t really know them and it’s my first time meeting them! So there is the sense of awkwardness and distance.

A short performance by the China student from WUST, and a tiny performance by us too, it was rather impromptu but we manage to pull it through so YAY!


They brought us to their canteens! A escalator in a canteen is something pretty impressive! It has 3 floors and each floor sells different kind of food, something that is lacking here in the old campus. We then went to their hostels, and I must say its way better than the hostels that the locals students are staying here in the old campus, it is more spacious and only 4 people sleep in each room as compared to 6 here! They are also given each a desk under their beds which is 2 times bigger than the ones here.

After that we had some ball games with them, before visiting the medical school! According to the professor all the specimen are real and are there for almost 30 years! (they have been persevered of course). Some of the specimen that I noticed were pretty cool, like those foetus of deformed the child to tortoise to lizards. After that we were sent back to our hostels and I stayed behind to finish blogging while MeiXiu and all went to “Lao Shu Jie” to shop!

Reflection:

I felt really overwhelmed as they welcomed us into their school; from what I learnt during IS, it is part of the culture here in China! They tend to be very friendly to their guest and give them their undivided attention; everything has to planned and attended for! Not that I don’t like, but I felt that what they did was too much for me and they should try to tone down, but then again everyone has his own practices, Singapore may not go to the extend to go to the car porch and wait for your arrival, but we would probably have a reception with some finger food so and mingle with them.
